Twice in one year our family geometry has changed quite radically – in the nicest of ways.
A year ago, Heath & Kelly tied the knot, and last weekend, Becca & Marco exchanged vows to each other. We came together on Saturday with family and friends – those who have walked our journey through thick and thin – in a fantabulous occasion in a superb location surrounded by the Langeberg mountains near Robertson. The nuptials occurred under the late afternoon sun and as the evening lights glowed, a proper party unfolded.
If you think this post is delayed, it’s because a lot can happen in a week. As part of their acknowledgment of my “second life” blessing, Bex & Marco arranged their wedding to coincide with the second anniversary of H2’s arrival in my life through the transplant.
After the amazing love and joy shared within the gathered clan, after enjoying superb
victuals, after dancing (okay, jumping) up a storm, I reported as planned for my second annual check-up over two days in hospital (the results were perfect & I’ll write about this in a separate post). In-between, the bridal couple have gone on honeymoon and most of us have had to rest in one way or another from the celebrations.
As for the geometry of this family, let me tell you something: if you want someone on your side when you are really very ill, when the fight to live has almost left you, then you want to be in this family. My family – each one right here in this beautiful image, beginning with Belinda and through all four of our children – fought for me to live when I didn’t have the energy to fight.
I’m unimaginably blessed to have had this wonderful week, to be here, part of this beautifully re-configured family.
• The official photographs are awaited. These lovely pix are courtesy of Bob Branfield, who proves that he has a second professional life waiting around the corner.

From Ora Nell: Thanks. Lovely to read about such happiness. Being me i noticed that the groom was wearing a rhino pin on his jacket – or was i hallucinating? If he was tell him BRAVO from me! You, my friend, obviously have aspirations to be a Mafiosi – must say, it looks good on you, Belinda looks like spring!! Lovely and all the best.
